Connecticut man stole an urn containing the ashes of his ex-girlfriend's grandmother, before dumping them in a forest, police said Monday.
Mark Kzakrzeski, of Southbury, 31 miles from Hartford, was charged with larceny and firearms offenses following an argument with his ex, Danielle Pace, during which he stole the urn, FOX CT reported.
He was armed with a gun at the time.
Pace said she was heartbroken about the missing urn -- which has not been recovered -- as she had planned to spread the ashes in Long Island, where her grandmother grew up.
"That's her wish. I was going to write a poem and do the whole thing. It was a really big thing for me," Pace said. "It's really special. I can't understand why [he] would do something so hurtful to me."
Kzakrzeski, who was being held on $50,000 bail, will face court Tuesday.
