NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Connecticut police say they have solved an 11-year-old double slaying, the first case resulting in charges after they formed a task force with federal authorities to examine old crimes.
New Haven police said Friday that 32-year-old Craig "Mousey" Hines faces two murder counts in the fatal shootings of Lamont Brockenberry and Lakeia Vaughn on June 1, 2000. Hines is being held in a federal prison in Indiana on unrelated weapons charges. Authorities are seeking to extradite him to Connecticut.
Telephone messages were left with attorneys who represented Hines for the earlier case.
Numerous relatives of the victims attended the news conference and some broke into tears.
Police said Brockenberry and Vaughn were not the intended targets of the shooting.
